Broward County Dental Association Strategic Plan

MISSION STATEMENT:


The Broward County Dental Association is a voluntary membership organization of dental professionals who, together with the Atlantic Coast District Dental Association and the American Dental Association, work to improve the oral health of the citizens of Broward County and serve the profession of dentistry.

The Broward County Dental Association is the leading resource for improving the oral health of every citizen in Broward County.

BCDA STRATEGIC PLAN GOALS


  1. Ensure that every citizen of Broward County can receive oral health care in a timely manner
  2. To ensure a sufficient and qualified dental workforce
  3. To be recognized as a leader in public oral health education
  4. To support our members through a strong and effective organization


Goal I - To ensure that every citizen of Broward County can receive oral health care
OBJECTIVES:
  1. Be the recognized leader for the promotion and advocacy on behalf of the citizen's of Broward County
    • Increase the public awareness of the importance of dental health care issues
    • Educate dentists to better understand access issues
    • with appropriate advocacy groups to facilitate access by Medicaid patients
  2. Identify and work to resolve oral health care issues
    • Promote the compassion and leading-edge care provided by BCDA members
    • Continue involvement and participation in Broward County public health initiatives


Goal II - To ensure a sufficient and qualified dental workforce in Broward County

OBJECTIVES:
  1. Ensure an adequate number of practicing dentists
    • Develop a program to present to high school students on dentistry as a career
    • Develop and implement a mentoring program
    • Enhance the effectiveness of the Broward County Dental Association recruitment committee
  2. Attract dentists to practice in Broward County
  3. Ensure adequate number of dental team members
  4. Provide leadership in discussions related to workforce qualifications for providing dental care


Goal III - To be recognized as a leader in public oral health education

OBJECTIVES:
  1. Increase public awareness of the importance of oral health
  2. Influence public perception of Broward County Dental Association through strategic marketing and coalition building
  3. Assist governmental branches (executive & legislative) in making decisions that meet the needs of both the public and the health care provider
  4. Ensure that legislators and others, who influence public health policy, see the Broward County Dental Association as the leading resource for improving oral health care
  5. Expand Broward County Dental Association’s technological capabilities to serve our members and the public


Goal IV - To support our members through a strong and effective organization

OBJECTIVES:
  1. Build a volunteer pool
    • Maximize support of dentists as members and participants/volunteers in Broward County Dental Association
    • Increase the number of dentists serving on boards, commissions
    • Continue with current programs where members and volunteer leaders participate, i.e...Broward County Dental Association's annual meeting, ADA annual meeting, etc…
  2. Increase membership
    • Enhance membership recruitment and development
    • Provide a broad scope of “value” services to member dental practices
    • Evaluate members usage levels and value ratings about BCDA programs, initiatives, member services, and membership dues/cost benefit
  3. Build a strong dental team concept
    • Review and assess the relationships and joint programming ventures of the BCDA, district, and state dental auxiliary associations
    • Explore options for auxiliary membership in Broward County Dental Association
    • Continue a dialogue between dentists and dental auxiliaries; focused on how best to serve oral health needs in Broward County
  4. Maintain an adequate staff and functioning central office
    • Implement a staff succession plan to accommodate retirements and emergency vacancies.
    • Maintain a staffing configuration that supports Broward County Dental Association work
  5. Achieve and maintain financial stability
    • Enhance financial stability and enhance revenues
    • Develop an integrated balanced budget
  6. Expand BCDA technological capabilities for all members
    • Evaluate member communication needs
    • Encourage and support technological interests and capabilities of members
    • Enhance technological capabilities
    • Actively manage website
  7. Provide dental education resources
    • Provide access to quality and affordable learning opportunities for dentists and dental team members
    • Be a resource for dental information, i.e.; political, academic, licensure, etc…
  8. Ensure capable and accurate responses to scientific questions/issues related to dentistry and oral health
  9. Effectively participate at the ADA national and district levels


GUIDING PRINCIPLES


These principles guide the development of the s strategic plan and direct its programs and initiatives.

  1. The Broward County Dental Association works to promote quality oral health services, accessible to all Broward County residents.
  2. Quality oral health care and access require shared obligations among Broward County consumers, Broward County Dental Association members, health care providers and governmental agencies and depend upon:
    • A workforce of dentists and other team members sufficient in numbers
    • A dental team of individuals who deliver care in a shared vision of healthy Broward County residents
    • Broward County consumers who pro-actively seek oral health care
    • State government that is supportive of community public health measures
    • A dental society dedicated to dental health education and advocacy
  3. The Broward County Dental Association’s role is to:
    • Ensure an adequate dental workforce
    • Provide education programs for all dental professionals
    • Promote a synergistic relationship with the American Dental Association to benefit our members and the Broward County patients they serve
    • Promote consumer education about oral health care
    • Assist Broward County Dental Association members to work with government, independent agencies, and consumers to ensure access to dental health services
    • Promote dental business models that deliver cost-effective quality care
